Although beautiful young widow Phoebe, Lady Clare, has never met West Ravenel, she knows one thing for certain: he’s a mean, rotten bully. Back in boarding school, he made her late husband’s life a misery, and she’ll never forgive him for it. But when Phoebe attends a family wedding, she encounters a dashing and impossibly charming stranger who sends a fire-and-ice jolt of attraction through her. And then he introduces none other than West Ravenel.

West is a man with a tarnished past. No apologies, no excuses. However, from the moment he meets Phoebe, West is consumed by irresistible desire...not to mention the bitter awareness that a woman like her is far out of his reach. What West doesn’t bargain on is that Phoebe is no straitlaced aristocratic lady. She’s the daughter of a strong-willed wallflower who long ago eloped with Sebastian, Lord St. Vincent—the most devilishly wicked rake in England.

Before long, Phoebe sets out to seduce the man who has awakened her fiery nature and shown her unimaginable pleasure. Will their overwhelming passion be enough to overcome the obstacles of the past?

Only the devil’s daughter knows…

I was expecting so much more. It felt like Phoebe was the one doing all the heavy lifting in the relationship and as much I love West he was a pansy in this book. However, once again the appearance of Sebastian and Evie even for a short moment gave me goosebumps cause their story is still and will always be the best. The end was soooooooooooo ridiculously abrupt and I felt like there was no real climax in the story. Not bad, but to have waited almost two years for this book I was expecting so much more.
  • Meh.

I was so excited to read West’s story, having loved him through other books. While he was as charming as ever, and it was enjoyable to revisit other characters, Phoebe was rather flat and the story lacked any real conflict. The love scenes lacked chemistry and creativity. The writing, surprisingly, wasn’t engaging; I found myself skipping over large chunks of unnecessary and clumsily written exposition. Also, Kleypas used some phrases and slang that felt out of place and threw me out of the world of the book. As others have said, the ending was a huge disappointment, but was, in its way, on par with the book as a whole: rushed, tepid, and unfulfilling. The last three releases by Kleypas have gotten progressively worse. I’ve read all of her work, but I may not be back for the next one.
  • Great read

There was an abrupt ending but I felt this book was a great transition novel, providing some heart warming follow up on other much-loves families, while setting up the next few novels in the series. Can’t wait for the next one!

I love Lisa kleypas’ books but this one fell short of the mark. The characters were awesome but nothing spectacular or jaw dropping happened. I kept waiting for the drama, or the climax and it never came. It felt rushed and not thought out. Sad.

😒 🤔😟😪 Great development of the story but a very disappointing ending. Like the previous comments I been waiting for month for this book and I got the feeling that needs more towards the end. Hopefully we will get more of this couple on the next story ( Severin's ??? Or Pandora's sister?)
  • So Good...

I didn't care for the last few books Ms. Kleypas had written, but this one is excellent. The characters are very well written and it was so easy to relate to them. I must admit there were times when I cried and times when I laughed out loud while reading this. It was just so enjoyable and the story seemed to go by so quickly. I was hoping for an epilogue, but perhaps we will see glimpses of Phoebe and West in the following books. It was also good to catch up with the Wallflowers now that they are parents and grandparents. This was a good read and I highly recommend it especially if you enjoyed the Wallflower series.
  • Was waiting for this one

Love this series and this author. Was particularly waiting for West’s story. Great build up and character development. But the ending seemed abrupt, easy, unsatisfying, and predictable. Ouch! Wanted more.

Love all the books in this series! But felt like this one ended abruptly! I would have loved an Epilogue! I wanted to know more about what there life was like together and if they had other children!

Perfectly satisfying! Loved connecting again with beloved characters from previous books. And I so enjoyed cheering on West and Phoebe. Lisa, don’t ever retire!
